Hamburg Süd Starts Operation in DaChan Bay

07 July 2010

DaChan Bay Terminals, the newest, first-class container terminal in West Shenzhen, today warmly welcomed Hamburg Süd on board as the latest customer to use the terminal with the maiden call of a new service between Asia, South Africa and East Coast of South America, jointly launched with Maersk.

Hamburg Süd and Maersk each deploys 5 ships with a carrying capacity of 2,500 TEUs for this new service.  Shippers and freight forwarders appreciate the port coverage of this service which renders fast transit times between DaChan Bay and key ports in South Africa and East Coast of South America.

Mr. Andrew Milliken, Chief Executive Officer of DaChan Bay Terminals (DCB), said: “We are glad Hamburg Süd has chosen DaChan Bay to expand its business in South China. Increasingly, the market recognizes the value propositions of DaChan Bay.  Our team of professionals is dedicated to meet and exceed the needs of our customers by providing the highest level of efficiency, expertise and environmental performance.

“Our terminal users enjoy unparallel barge connectivity between DaChan Bay and West Pearl River Delta.  Such a well-developed barge network delivers lower carbon emission and lower logistics cost.  Besides, our deployment of a full fleet of electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes and other energy efficient equipment has made DaChan Bay an environmentally friendly solution for cargo flow in and out of South China.”

The new service provides weekly calls at DaChan Bay Terminal One every Wednesday, and follows a port rotation of Shanghai - Ningbo - DaChan Bay - Hong Kong - Singapore - Tanjung Pelepas - Durban - Santos - Itajai - Port Elizabeth - Durban - Shanghai.
