Maersk Line Expands Partnership with DaChan Bay Terminals

05 May 2009

DaChan Bay Terminals, the newest, first-class container terminal facility in West Shenzhen, welcomed the maiden call of "Nedlloyd Oceania” deployed for the Far East - Middle East (FM3) service of Maersk Line, the world’s leading container shipping company.  This is the second Maersk Line service to call on DaChan Bay Terminals.

Occupying a strategic location that encompasses well-developed land and waterway access to both the eastern and western sides of the Pearl River Delta (PRD), DaChan Bay Terminals provides shipping line customers a distinct opportunity to capture new cargo catchment areas as factories migrate inland and to the west of the PRD.  Customs for DaChan Bay has also been in full operation since July 2008.

Mr. Soren Karas, Head of Maersk Line for the South China Cluster, said: “Maersk Line sees DaChan Bay as an important piece in the puzzle in securing the most comprehensive port coverage in the region and offering our clients a selection of first rate services that are tailored to their needs. We are delighted that we can enter this new phase of our South China development with Modern Terminals, which ensures that DaChan Bay Terminals will perform to the highest of standards for Maersk Line and our clients.”

“This is the second service that Maersk Line opens at DaChan Bay Terminals, our first service started there in February. We believe this increases the value proposition of the Maersk Line service offerings in South China,” Mr. Karas concluded.

In commenting about the move, Mr. Andrew Milliken, Chief Executive of DaChan Bay Terminals said: “DaChan Bay Terminals is the newest container terminal in Shenzhen and is strategically-located to enjoy unparallel connectivity to cargo catchment areas in both western and eastern PRD.  Our workforce is guided by a customer-focused culture that values teamwork and empowers them to satisfy their customers’ needs proactively and innovatively.  We are also well-equipped to handle the world’s largest existing and planned container vessels and deliver unsurpassed standards of service and productivity to our customers.”

The maiden call alongside DaChan Bay Terminals of “Nedlloyd Oceania” commences the FM3 service that provides weekly calls every Wednesday and deploys container vessels with an average capacity of 3,600 TEU.  The vessels deployed for the service follow a port rotation of Kwangyang - Busan - Hakata - Hong Kong - DaChan Bay Terminals -Tanjung Pelepas - Jawaharlal Nehru - Port Qasim.
