The first two berths of DaChan Bay Terminals - a new world-class container terminal facility located in Western Shenzhen - were opened today.

The officiating guests at the quayside opening ceremony included Mr. Xu Zongheng, Mayor of Shenzhen Municipality; Mr. Li Decheng, Chairman of Shenzhen People's Political Consultative Conference; Mr. Zhuang Lixiang, Deputy Director of Shenzhen People's Congress; Mr. Zhang Siping, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Municipality; Mr. Peter Woo, Chairman of The Wharf (Holdings) Limited; and Mr. Huang Rui, Chairman of Shenzhen DaChan Bay Port Investment and Development Co., Ltd. 

Wharf's subsidiary Modern Terminals Limited has a 65-percent shareholding in DaChan Bay Terminals.  Modern Terminals has been playing a leading role in the Terminal's development and will manage its operations.  The other 35 percent of this new Terminal's shares are held by Shenzhen Dachan Bay Port Investment and Development Co., Ltd., a company under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Shenzhen Municipal Government. 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Woo noted that the first two berths of DaChan Bay Terminals are now in place, whereas the three other berths will be completed during 2008.  

"What we promised, we fulfilled fully and promptly - we are a very reliable partner.  With the professional infrastructure design and state-of-the-art equipment, these world-class specifications make me believe: DaChan Bay Terminals will deliver customer-focused services for the years to come," he added. 

Great attention has also been paid to making the new Terminal as environmentally friendly as possible.  To ensure its customers receive a continuum of service and operational excellence, Modern Terminals will apply the expertise it has acquired in container terminal operations in Hong Kong during the past 35 years, as well as its commitment to a corporate culture that emphasises mutual trust and respect, accountability, customer-focus and teamwork.
