MOL Strengthens Partnership with DaChan Bay Terminals to Better Accommodate Shippers with a New Japan Service in Shenzhen, China

28 July 2009

DaChan Bay Terminals is all set for serving a new Japan - Hong Kong - Strait service from MOL. MOL extends this premium Japan service to include Shenzhen as a port of call, rendering the fastest transit time to Tokyo from Shenzhen and Hong Kong in the market.  The two companies have already started a familiarisation programme in collaboration for shippers and business associates prior to the arrival of the first vessel on the service on 20 August 2009.

Mr. Mitsujiro Akasaka, Director, MOL Liner Trade Management, expressed his appreciation towards the Terminal’s high standard of customer-focused services: “We are excited to continue expanding business in South China by opening our first Japan service in Shenzhen.  Our current Japan - Hong Kong - Strait service has been very reputable for reliability and punctuality.  We take pride in offering the fastest transit time in the market of only 4 days from Shenzhen/ Hong Kong to Tokyo.  Better still, it is extremely convenient to customers as their shipments will reach them in Tokyo in the early morning of Tuesday when MOL vessels arrive there on Monday.”

“I am sure MOL is best positioned to capture growth in South China by leveraging on the strategic location of DaChan Bay Terminals that provides an unbeatable connectivity to cargo catchment areas in both Western and Eastern Pearl River Delta. DaChan Bay Terminals has always been our preferred partner in this region with considerable growth potential.  In collaboration, we have scheduled a series of activities to help shippers and logistics players get familiarized with terminal operations and related customs procedures, well before the first call of the new Japan service.  The process has been as smooth and efficient as our introduction of previous services at the Terminal,” commented Mr. Akasaka.

Mr. Andrew Milliken, Chief Executive of DaChan Bay Terminals, congratulates MOL on continuous business expansion.  He said: “We are committed to delivering a unique “customer experience” with all-round excellence that is second to none.  Our customers enjoy the privileges offered by our Terminal’s strategic location in Shenzhen that is supported by an unparallel road and barge network.  We are not complacent with it but are constantly seeking new ways to meet our customers’ evolving needs and create extra value for them.”

MOL’s Japan - Hong Kong - Strait service provides weekly calls at DaChan Bay Terminals every Thursday, deploying three container vessels with an average capacity of 3,500 TEUs each.  The service follows a port rotation of Port Kelang - Singapore - DaChan Bay Terminals - Hong Kong - Tokyo - Yokohama - Nagoya - Kobe - Hong Kong - Singapore - Port Kelang.  The shippers using this new service will enjoy very short transit time for their shipments leaving DaChan Bay Terminals to reach Tokyo in 4 days, Yokohama in 5 days, Nagoya in 6 days and Kobe in 7 days.
